Art BNB: Neon and Sea, 180-182 Promenade Between, Blackpool FY1 1RJ
You spend your days searching for creative hostels for your next Euro Jollies, and accidently stumble over a belter that’s much closer to home. Perfect for a staycation! The Art BnB is up North! – Based in Blackpool. (You might have caught me post about Blackpool’s Illuminations here). It’s right on the seafront, and has been entirely designed by Artists.
First things first, I love the egg art on its exterior. It reminds me of that little eggy fry up I saw when I went street art wandering in Hamburg, only on a much grander scale! It was created by the Artist @andyhazellartist.
Now, let’s explore inside the BnB! Like I mentioned, everything has been designed by different Artists. So each of its rooms have different themes. My fave is the below – the King Sea View. That beltin’ ceiling was created by Visual Artist & Designer Mark Mcclure, and it reminds me of a Camille Walala mural. I used to love wandering around London and spotting her work. I do love a good sea view too.
My next fave is the room by Creative Director Dr. Marisa Carnesky for its show girl vibes. Well, that is Blackpool, innit. Its heritage is all about its shows. I always think that they should move London’s West End up to Blackpool and bring the area back to its glory days. Why should everything have to be so far away in London?!!
There’s also an installation called ‘Peep Fiction’ by Artist @noahrose_artist that adorns one of the rooms, as well as various points around the hotel. Can’t lie… I got glory hole vibes from some of the hotel’s Insta pics of people on all fours looking through holes in walls, and then I realised that there are hidden slideviewers around the place! They showcase the backstories of some of Blackpool’s famous faces. Such a crackin’ idea! If I’ve whet your whistle, have a look at the rest of their rooms on their site artbb here.
So that’s another place for me bucketlist! Maybe next time I go to see Blackpool’s Illuminations. Saw an art hotel or creative hostel that I’d love? – Sling it in me comments love to inspire a post.
