As me excitement for Eurovish begins to bubble over ahead of the upcoming semis and the chuffin’ final, I thought I’d celebrate by googling cafes in this year’s host city of Rotterdam. Well, we all get our kicks in different ways! So, here are 5 places where I’d sup a brew if I was going to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Nieuw Rotterdams Café: Witte de Withstraat 63, 3012 BN Rotterdam, Netherlands
Well, obviously this one’s interior is right up my street. I love a witty neon sign, and that yellow and blue chevron design is the spit and dip of the cover art I use for Manci stuff.
I’ve spotted on their website that they currently do breakfast boxes. Like a little picnic to your door in the morning. Isn’t it just nice to order boxes of things and feel like you’re getting a pressie in the post too. Also, apparently this place transforms from a cafe and into a nightclub in the evenings. My kind of people! ‘First we eat, then we dance’. Their words actually… not mine!
LOT&DAAN : Gelderseplein 24, 3011 TZ Rotterdam, Netherlands
Any place with a swing always gets me through its doors, and I’m also the kind of gal to take it too far and spill me coffee all down myself. Its interior design looks lovely judging by its Insta pics, and it serves up a cracking breakfast and lunch menu. Reading around, it sounds like it’s also close to the canal, for anybody who’s partial to an after dinner stroll.
Vitamin Food: Meent 42A, 3011 JL Rotterdam, Netherlands
I’m all for balancing out the boxed wine and chips with a bit of exercise and nutritious food. I’m actually being serious. I’m really interested in how the different things that you eat affect your body and wellbeing. Who knows, maybe the concept cafe that I’ll one day open will be a Mood Food one. Anyway, it was their cafe’s interior that caught my eye whilst scrolling Insta but I’m now sucked in by the fact that they focus on selling stuff that’s packed with vitamins, zapping out the sugar, and tailored to vegans. It’s all about balance, love!
Fenix Food Factory: Nico Koomanskade 1025, 3072 LM Rotterdam
For the kind of days you like having an option, stroll the Fenix Food Factory which is packed with artisanal fodder. Seems like it was created by a bunch of entrepreneurs who wanted to create a place where people could shop, see how their food is made, and have a nosh. Sounds like the dream to me!
Op Het Dak: Schiekade 189, 3013 BR Rotterdam, Netherlands
And my final pick will blow your socks off – Op Het Dak! An urban farm in the skies, right in the middle of the city centre. They grow their own vegetables and edible flowers, and even have their own bee farm. I’m actually sad that I’m not exploring Rotterdam in person, but then I just say Rona to myself and remember that safer times will come! I wish they’d chuffin hurry, though! – Don’t you?!
Got a fave creative spot in Rotters that I need to see? Share it in me comments to inspire a blog post, love!
