Enjoying A Big Portion at ‘For Sale Pub’ Budapest

For Sale Pub: Budapest, Vámház krt. 2, 1053 Hungary

When I rented a flat for the summer in Budapest, I spotted this restaurant close to where I was staying. The pub is filled with pieces of paper pinned everywhere from its ceiling to its walls. So, that’s what actually caught my eye as I was passing by! I love a creative concept, so I had to go and book myself a table.

It was quite busy inside and they gave me a table upstairs. The floor is covered in hay and they use real lit candles everywhere. Bear in mind, there’s also all of the paper pinned about… health and safety would never have that in the UK. I felt like I was entering an opening scene of ‘Casualty’! Fortunately, it didn’t burn down with me inside… and is still safe and standing to be clear.

Now, this Northern gal loves a large portion and let me tell you, the For Sale Pub doesn’t disappoint. I didn’t know that before going in or even after looking through the menu. I asked for a goulash starter and a schnitzel main, and the waiter said; ‘no, no, too much’. I said; ‘But that’s what I want!’ and to cut a long story short, he just didn’t bring me any goulash. To be fair, the main was soooo big, I wouldn’t have been able to squeeze in anything else. So, I let him win, rather than insisting on a Sam versus food situation again.

I struggled to walk across the hay and back down the stairs after troffing that back. Just check out me sick full face in the snap below.

Nobody in the pub could tell me any cool tale about why they pin paper all over the walls but I added to it with my own little scribbles. I’ll confess that I drew a penis and wrote a name on it but since me and that person are no longer on speaking terms, I can’t share the photo. That’s the maturity and respect that I’ve sprouted since living through lockdown.

A close up of some other notes is below. One a nod to the footy, and apologies if the non-English ones are offensive, as I can’t read those languages. I say that, and some chuffer will now point out it’s English.

Have you been to Budapest and want to share your creative finds with me? Tell me in the comments, cock!
