The only thing that I know about beer is how to drink it, so when I found out that Salford based Brewery, Seven Bro7hers was upcycling Kelloggs, Coco Pops and Rice Krispies cereals into beer, to say the least I was mind blown. Doesn’t take much to get excited in lockdown!
Kelloggs is apparently passionate about food sustainability and do lots to donate and reduce food waste. Some of the most common reasons for surplus stock at Kelloggs are when the cereal has been overcooked, uncoated, the wrong size or discoloured. The taste however stays the same and that’s where Seven Bro7hers saw an opportunity to team up with Kelloggs and create these cereal based brews to help reduce food waste.
The mini range includes; Throw Away IPA a malty, amber ale with definite hints of Kellogg’s. ‘Cast off Pale Ale‘ a double dry hopped pale brewed using upcycled Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, and ‘Sling it out Stout‘ a rich, decadent stout brewed using upcycled Kellogg’s Coco Pops.
Since discovering their innovative cereal brews, I’ve done an Insta Deep crawl and spotted that they also make gin, have lockdown care packages, and do a virtual brewery tour with beer tasting. Present ideas aplenty! Me Dad’s getting a pint of Coco Pops for Father’s Day, then.
Have a nosey for yourself over on the Seven Bro7hers site here.
I love discovering and sharing creative ideas, so show me your finds in the comments, cock!
